Promoting healthy ecosystems to build resilience to climate change

Namakwa District Receives Climate Change Training

Conservation South Africa (CSA), working with Sustainable Energy Africa, held a 2 day training workshop on the Lets Respond Toolkit with support from GIZ and SALGA. Over 25 government officials attended from various departments and from the local and District municipalities who included municipal leaders and municipal development planners.

The workshop was a phenomenal success resulting in the development of 4 project concepts for local climate change response, including rainwater harvesting, solar geysers, recycling and climate change awareness. A key outcome was the submission of a climate change adaptation-based set of comments into the IDP review for the district and each of the 6 local municipalities. Another key outcome was that the NDM committed to implement a pilot climate response demonstration project in the local town of Calvinia, through which it will build 6 new houses fully equipped with solar geysers, solar lighting packs, and rainwater harvesting system.
